Dynamic stock updating for WorkNC
WorkNC Version 18 has added new dynamic stock management to its CAM/CAD system. All the softwares roughing toolpaths benefit from this new feature, which automatically updates the stock material remaining after each machining operation.

Dynamic stock management ensures that each roughing and re-roughing operation works at optimum efficiency by restricting the tool to machining only where excess material is present. Not only does the new function save programming time by updating the stock model automatically as each operation is finished, but it also saves machining time through reduced air cutting by keeping the tool engaged with the material. Maintaining tool engagement minimises shock loading on the tool, which helps to increase tool life and at the same time enables higher feedrates to be employed.

Coupled with the benefits of dynamic stock management, WorkNC version 18 also provides real time tool holder collision detection. As the toolpath is calculated WorkNC avoids collisions between the tool assembly and the job. The programmer can specify the parts type and shape, and the allowable clearance between the holder and the workpiece, generating a safe and viable toolpath straight away. The availability of the automatically created dynamic stock model ensures that the changes which occur to the shape of the job after each operation are fully considered by the tool holder collision detection. This avoids unexpected variations in tool loading and ensures that metal removal is as effective as possible.
As a further check, WorkNCs VisuNC toolpath verification function now includes a collision report to double check the accuracy and reliability of the cutterpath and give the user absolute confidence in the results.
The developments in dynamic stock management and collision detection in Version 18 are part of Sescois aim of offering truly practical solutions to machining problems, helping its customers to cut machining times and quickly produce reliable toolpaths. The safety and speed of WorkNC has enabled many of its users to implement unmanned machining and allowed them to benefit from valuable cost savings, keeping them at the forefront of their industry.
